Description Conducive To Books First Frost (Waverley Family #2)
From the New York Times bestselling author of Garden Spells comes a story of the Waverley family, in a novel as sparkling as the first dusting of frost on new-fallen leaves.. It's October in Bascom, North Carolina, and autumn will not go quietly. As temperatures drop and leaves begin to turn, the Waverley women are made restless by the whims of their mischievous apple tree... and all the magic that swirls around it. But this year, first frost has much more in store. Claire Waverley has started a successful new venture, Waverley’s Candies. Though her handcrafted confections — rose to recall lost love, lavender to promote happiness and lemon verbena to soothe throats and minds — are singularly effective, the business of selling them is costing her the everyday joys of her family, and her belief in her own precious gifts. Sydney Waverley, too, is losing her balance. With each passing day she longs more for a baby — a namesake for her wonderful Henry. Yet the longer she tries, the more her desire becomes an unquenchable thirst, stealing the pleasure out of the life she already has. Sydney’s daughter, Bay, has lost her heart to the boy she knows it belongs to.. if only he could see it, too. But how can he, when he is so far outside her grasp that he appears to her as little more than a puff of smoke? When a mysterious stranger shows up and challenges the very heart of their family, each of them must make choices they have never confronted before. And through it all, the Waverley sisters must search for a way to hold their family together through their troublesome season of change, waiting for that extraordinary event that is First Frost. Lose yourself in Sarah Addison Allen's enchanting world and fall for her charmed characters in this captivating story that proves that a happily-ever-after is never the real ending to a story. It’s where the real story begins.Rating Containing Books First Frost (Waverley Family #2)

4.5 stars. I won this book as a First Reads giveaway. The Waverly women from Garden Spells return in Sarah Addison Allen's latest, to be released in January. It was a perfect time to read this as it takes place just before the first frost. I enjoyed the magical themes once again as we learn that Claire is in business making candy, Sydney is longing for a baby, and her daughter, Bay is a teenager, accepting her life and gifts as a Waverly woman. A mysterious man shows up in Bascom with secretsA great follow up to Garden Spells and I hated to see it end. A fantastic set of characters mixed with a cozy mystery. The first part of the book was mainly about Bay, one of the younger Waverley's, and how she and her special gifts are maturing. She has not been made privy to a back story that concerns her future and some old secrets are revealed. Claire has become a candy maker and people are clambering for her, sometimes life altering, wares except for the dark stranger who arrives in town.
*4.5 stars*I first read Garden Spells, the prequel to this book, back in 2008. Though I'd always been in love with reading, my reading volume was much lower back then. I was reading about a book or two a month at that point, compared to about 350 books a year, which is my current rate. Now that 7 years have passed, I wasn't sure how I would view this author or her stories. Would I still love her style, her voice? The answer is a HUGE hell yeah. From the moment I started this book I couldn't put
[Thursday, August 28, 2014] No way! No way! No way!! OMG!! I'm so excited!!!! I wanted a second installment the first time I finished the book!! :DA few years ago I read Garden Spells, and afterward read it multiple times, for the pleasure reading it gave me, since then Allen became one of my favorite authors, I've been pre ordering her novels ever since.I didn't want to finish reading First Frost, I wanted to slowly enjoy it, I always rush though a good book, and First Frost was so good that as
The Waverley women from Garden Spells return in Sarah Addison Allen's First Frost. I enjoyed revisiting her endearing, quirky characters as well as the charming magic each one possesses. As Halloween approaches the Waverley ladies become a tad unhinged. The first frost of the season calms everything down but they have to make it until then. A sinister stranger arrives, a high school crush unfolds, a thief surprises all and questions about the past surface and had me turning the pages quickly.
Anyone who has read Garden Spells can confirm that the novel hardly needs a sequel. It's a magical, beautiful stand-alone novel and Allen's debut holds a special place in my heart. First Frost, on the other hand, does not. It takes place a decade after Garden Spells ended and though the re-visit to the Waverley household is familiar--warm, comforting, loving--it feels strangely unnecessary. I didn't have to know of Claire's new candy-making business, Sydney's desire for a son, or Bay's feeling
Garden Spells was my first Sarah Addison Allen read, and it instantly left me wanting to read more of the authors work. With there being a second Waverley Family book, I knew exactly where I would be heading for my next Sarah Addison Allen read.Garden Spells was a truly magical read, one that left me in love with the magical realism world Sarah Addison Allen had created. It was such an uplifting story, with so many positively feelings, that I was left feeling light and breezy for days after
