Lesley Pearse is one of my favourite authors and all her books are captivating and intriguing. I normally give without hesitation 5 stars. This book Belle although enjoyable I felt it went on too much about prostitution, I am certainly not a prude, as I read anything I can get my hands on, if its a good story. But I felt there could have been much more of a storyline and not as repetitive. I will still definitely be looking out for the next instalment The Promise as I am sure that will earn theI thought that the idea for the storyline was intriguing, however, the execution was quite poor. I found that there was a lot of repetition in the book, which made it a lot longer than it needed to be.I also found that the main character, Belle, was badly written. I just felt that for such a young girl, who experienced such terrible things, she bounced back awfully quickly, which I found a bit unrealistic.For example, it felt like 5 minutes after being sold into prostitution, she just goes, "I

I enjoyed this WAY more than I thought I would. I was worried that, at over 600 pages, Belle would drag. It definitely didn't; there's an awful lot of events packed into these pages, one right after the other with barely a moment to breathe and get your head around the last disaster. Aw man... Why do I never love the high brow books?? I am a creature of low tastes! Such an easy read... not very well written but not badly written either. Pearse had a story to tell and she doesn't let fancy writing and literary constructs get in the way of her plot. Whatever about the simplicity of the writing Pearse does an amazing job of creating real, believable characters... an amazing job.
